The shipyard had already demonstrated great style with the Opera 80 which was then extended to the design of the 85-footer. From the outside, the appearance is an extension of what has already been done, but the interior is absolutely different, and completely surprising. Stepping aboard this motoryacht gives you a feeling of theatre. You can almost breathe in the quality, and you can certainly see it in the details and the overall impact. Walking through the doors of the salon you can see Riva quality in all its splendour. The use of Canaletto Walnut, a straight-grained Italian version of the twisted grain walnut widely used for antique furniture, on the Opera provides the perfect backdrop for leather and fabric interiors. Leather is the other unusual feature of the interior style. Rich and shiny, it is used for furniture upholstery, for the coffee table and for details.
In terms of layout, the Opera follows conventions with separate lounge and dining areas on the main deck. The galley is hidden behind the wheelhouse; The exterior kitchen door allows the crew to access both work areas without disturbing guests. The kitchen may seem "hidden", but it is still a good size and well equipped for complete meal preparation.
The eight-seater dining table is arranged at an angle to save space, thus leaving room for the head of the day behind the helm station. On the left side, the internal stairs lead to the flying bridge. It is possible to close the dining area from the living room with a Venetian blind with wooden slats. At the bottom of the saloon everything is squared off in a very clever arrangement.
Below deck, quality fabrics make it look softer and lighter. The beautiful fusion of contrasts between wood, leather and fabric creates a rich and restful effect.
The master cabin features a full-width bathroom that runs across the aft end with a walk-in shower in the middle, a bathtub and washbasin on one side, and the head on the other. An eminently practical arrangement that becomes extraordinarily beautiful with the wooden paneling, marble floors and tops.
In terms of styling, the exterior follows the conventions of fast motoryachts with its ascending curves leading to the flying bridge. There aren't many options, but it's the rich finish that oozes luxury.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Riva without teak. When you get on board you are surrounded by teak, on decks, on bulkheads. Riva manages to give a unique richness to its raw teak, a richness that welcomes and embraces you.
The flying bridge is even richer in teak. Here the layout is almost circular, with the sofas and bar (with barbecue) rotating around the helm and an adjacent sun lounger in the bow section. An arc mast provides the mounting points for the antenna and also houses the bimini that extends under current to provide shelter over much of the flying bridge. The main stowage of the tender consists of a garage in the transom which - a rare warning - flows into the crew space at the stern, where there are two double bunk cabins.
As for the machines, this yacht has a pair of MTU diesel engines, V-12 from the 2,000 hp range. These work via V-reducers, which keep the engine installation well aft. The 4,000 hp gives this heavy yacht very agile performance, with a speed of up to 33 knots in the right conditions.
